How to use what3words if you break down
Breakdowns always seem to happen at the worst times, but we’re here for you when you need us most.
What should I do if my car breaks down?
We know it sounds annoying, but really, just stay calm – it happens a lot and help will be on the way shortly. Here’s a little checklist to help keep you, and everyone else on the road, safe:
- Turn your hazard lights on
- Make sure you’re safely off the road
- Exit the car through the left-hand door
- Wear a hi-vis if you have one in the car
- Walk your warning triangle about 60 paces behind your vehicle (unless you’re on the motorway, in which case stand well away from the road at all times)
- If it’s dark outside or visibility’s poor, keep your sidelights switched on
- Only after all this should you call your breakdown service
If you have Allianz Car Insurance and have our breakdown cover, here’s what you need to know:
What’s what3words & how do I use it?
The what3words app divides the world into 3-metre squares and gives you a unique combination of three words, wherever you are.
We’ll ask you to use what3words if you’ve broken down so we can find you easily and help you on your way.
The words are easy to say and share, for example – rest.easy.now – and they're just as accurate as GPS coordinates.
Once you've downloaded the app, you don't even need mobile data or Wi-Fi to use it!
What are my breakdown cover options?
Different providers offer various levels of cover, so it’s worth doing your research. The last thing you need is to find out you’re not covered by your insurer, for a particular reason.
Check out what’s included in the different cover options to make sure you get one that’s right for you. With Allianz Breakdown, you have the choice to get cover:
1. In your local area
2. In the UK
3. Anywhere in Europe
Depending on which cover level you choose, you could be provided with a replacement hire car, alternative transport, or overnight accommodation (if we can’t fix your car the same day).
Whenever you need us, we’ll have your back but remember to take care of your car in the meantime.
