If you own a vintage clarinet that’s 20 years old and was bought second-hand, you can insure this for however much it would cost to replace to the same standard, which may be more than what the instrument actually cost to purchase. If you do need to make a claim, we’ll pay out the amount for which your instrument was insured, so you can source another vintage make, if this is your preference.
It’s worth noting that some insurers will only let you insure your instrument for the value it cost to purchase at the time. If you need to make a claim in the future, this amount may not be sufficient to buy a replacement instrument of the same quality in the current market, particularly if your instrument was a vintage or rare make.
Did you know that some insurers will also only replace your gear new when it was purchased new, and is less than three years old? This is not the case with our policies. If you own a guitar that is five years old and need to make a claim, we give you the option to replace this with a brand new model, or a second-hand one – it’s entirely up to you and your preference.
To sum up:
- We insure vintage, rare and second-hand instruments
- We’ll insure your instrument for its replacement value, even if this is more than what the instrument cost to purchase originally
- We let you choose your replacement instrument – it can be brand new, second-hand, whichever you prefer*
It can be tricky to get your head around, but it’s always worth checking what your insurer’s policy is on new for old cover. If you have any questions about this or any other aspect of our policy, please do give us a call on 0330 100 9903 and we’ll be happy to help.
